Instagram

Comments on posts and reels, profile with the content grid, stories, followers and following. Taken from the service, not from the screen.

It switches itself on
  1. You paste the address into the forensic browser.
  2. You start a web page acquisition, as always.
  3. C.E.R.T.O. recognises the platform and does the rest.

No option to tick, no separate module to buy, no extra cost: it is the Web pages module, at its own rate.

On Instagram the comments are not in the page: they appear little by little as you scroll and the platform keeps only a handful on screen at a time. A tool that photographs the screen collects what is visible at that moment — the rest does not exist, and it does not even show up as missing.

C.E.R.T.O. queries the same addresses the Instagram application uses to build the page and preserves every response exactly as it arrived, with its provenance envelope. Replies do not come with the list: every comment that has them carries its own continuation, which must be followed separately. They are followed.

What goes into the bundle

What gets acquired

Only what the program actually does: every item matches a collection that exists in the code and has been tested on real acquisitions.

Comments and replies

On posts, reels and IGTV items: text, author, date and counters, distinguished by level. The document states how many items the platform announces, how many were collected and why collection stopped.

Profile and content grid

Profile details with counters taken from the service rather than from the page text — the page read “38.5K followers” while the service declared 38581, at the same instant — plus the full grid of published content, carousels included.

Stories

Acquired on the confirmation screen, before pressing “View story”: there the content is already available, playback does not start and the author sees no view. Verified: two consecutive cold openings leave the counter at zero.

Followers and following

The complete lists, followed page after page to the end, with each person's name, identifier and picture.

“More posts from…”

The grid shown below a post, which does not populate even by scrolling live: the bundle used to carry only its heading, now it carries the content.

Recognised addresses

What you can paste

Recognition looks at the domain and the shape of the address. If it recognises nothing, it stays an ordinary web page acquisition: nothing is lost.

  • instagram.com/p/<codice>post with the comments panel
  • instagram.com/reels/<codice>reel (the /reel/ form too)
  • instagram.com/tv/<codice>legacy IGTV format
  • instagram.com/<utente>profile, grid, followers and following
In the bundle

Where what it collects ends up

Folders inside the BagIt bundle, alongside everything else from the web acquisition: WACZ archive, screenshots, network traffic, certificates, report.

  • social/instagram/
  • raw-api/

The bundle's interactive.html dashboard presents them in tables with search and sorting, and works offline, on a double click, even on a computer without C.E.R.T.O. installed.

The raw response stays in the bundle

Where collection goes through a service, every response is preserved verbatim with its provenance envelope: queried address, method, status, moment of receipt. Anyone contesting the data can go back to the source rather than trusting our table.

Sealed like every acquisition

A BagIt 1.0 bundle with an Ed25519 signature, a double RFC 3161 timestamp and a CASE/UCO description, verifiable by anyone, offline, with the included verifiers.

It says when it stops

The document reports how many items the platform announces, how many were collected and why collection stopped. A stated limit is worth more than an asserted completeness.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most often about this platform.

Are comments taken from the screen or from the service?
From the service. C.E.R.T.O. queries the same addresses the Instagram application uses to build the page and preserves every response verbatim, with the queried address, method, status and moment of receipt. Text, author, date and counters come from there, as the service declares them: anyone contesting the data can go back to the source rather than trusting our table.
Does acquiring a story show up as a view to its author?
No. The acquisition happens on Instagram's confirmation screen, before pressing “View story”: at that point the content is already available and playback has not started. This was verified in the field — two consecutive cold openings leave the view counter at zero.
Do I have to tell C.E.R.T.O. I am acquiring Instagram?
No. You paste the address and start a web page acquisition as usual: C.E.R.T.O. recognises the platform and the shape of the address by itself and switches on the dedicated collection. There is no option to tick, no separate module to buy and no extra cost.
