Payee verification (VoP)

Does the name you are about to pay match the holder of that IBAN? The answer, sealed.

1 slot

1 slot per query, 3 with the InfoCert qualified timestamp. You pay only when a result is obtained: if the source does not answer, nothing is charged and no bundle is produced.

Available to anyone with at least one paid order.

The result is sealed in a bundle with an Ed25519 signature and an RFC 3161 timestamp, with a report in text and PDF.

You give an IBAN and the expected payee name, and get the outcome of the comparison between them. It is the check European banks apply before a transfer to stop bank-detail substitution fraud: the invoice is genuine, the IBAN is swapped.

The forensic value is not in performing the comparison — the bank does that too — but in fixing its outcome in a signed, time-stamped bundle: it shows what was known, and when.

What goes into the bundle

What it establishes

Only what the program actually does: every item matches a finding that exists in the code.

The outcome of the comparison

Whether the given name matches the holder of that IBAN, does not match, or matches only partially.

The moment it became known

Date and time of the check, anchored by a timestamp: this is what makes the bundle useful when arguing about who knew what.

Honesty first

What this service does NOT tell you, and a warning

A stated limit is worth more than a claim of completeness — and it goes into the report too, not just onto this page.

🔴 It returns the name of a person who is not your client. The holder of that IBAN is a third party, and their name is obtained by asking the question. It is personal data in every sense: treat it as such, and use it only if it genuinely serves the purpose of the check.

A negative outcome does not prove fraud, and a positive one does not rule it out. A name may fail to match for mundane reasons — an abbreviated business name, an account held by a factoring company. The bundle fixes the outcome, not its interpretation.

It does not say whether the account exists, is active or holds funds. It compares a name with a holder, nothing else.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most often about this check.

What is it for, if the bank already does it?
The bank shows you the outcome and moves on: it leaves you nothing you can produce later. Here the outcome is sealed with a signature and a timestamp, and becomes a document showing what was known and when. That is precisely what is needed when, months later, the argument is about who should have noticed.
Can I check anyone's IBAN?
Technically yes, and that is exactly why it must be said plainly: the answer contains a third party's name. Use it where there is a reason — a payment you are about to make, a dispute over a transfer already executed — not out of curiosity. It is personal data, and responsibility for handling it lies with whoever asks.
How much does it cost?
1 slot, 3 with the InfoCert qualified timestamp.
